Thai boxing, or muay-thai, is a combat sport that was created at the base for the Thai military.
It is classified in the West as one of the most complete boxing feet.
Thai boxing has its origins in muay boran (traditional boxing) and krabi krabong (practice with weapons).
Muay Thai is considered as national sport in Thailand. Many “camp” training clubs spread all over Thailand and welcome young people from a very young age.
There are two famous Muay Thai stadiums around the world that are considered to be the benchmarks of this discipline, which are located in Bangkok: the stadiums of Lumpinee and Rajadamnoen.
Running a Thai Boxing Fight
The fights take place in five rounds of three minutes.
They are preceded by a ritual dance called ram-muay during which the nak-muay (boxers) wear the mongkon (cloth around the head).
Being one of the most complete boxes, it is allowed to use his fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet (depending on the country).
